What's Spot-Cleaning?Updated 18 days ago
When we recommend spot-cleaning, we’re suggesting a gentle, targeted approach that refreshes your product without the "trauma" of a full soak or a spin in the washing machine. It is the best way to extend the life of technical fabrics and delicate fillings like memory foam or microbeads.
Here is how to do it like a pro:
The Spot-Cleaning Ritual
Prepare a Gentle Solution: Mix a small amount of mild detergent (like a delicate wool wash or clear dish soap) with lukewarm water. You don’t want it too sudsy—just enough to break down surface oils or dirt.
The "Dab, Don't Scrub" Rule: Dip a soft, lint-free cloth or a clean sponge into the water and wring it out well. It should be damp, not dripping. Gently dab the stain or the area that needs refreshing. Avoid rubbing vigorously, as this can push the dirt deeper into the fibers or pilling the fabric.
Rinse with a Clean Cloth: Use a second cloth dampened with only plain water to "rinse" the area. This removes any lingering soap residue that might attract more dirt later.
Press Out Excess Moisture: Take a dry, clean towel and press it firmly against the damp spot to soak up as much water as possible. Never wring or twist the product.
The Final Air-Dry: Place the item in a well-ventilated area to dry naturally. Avoid hair dryers, radiators, or direct sunlight, as extreme heat can make materials (especially memory foam) brittle or misshapen.
Why is it better than a machine wash?
Most of our products are designed with complex internal structures—like the Original Napping Pillow’s microbeads or the BedPillow’s memory foam. A washing machine can cause these materials to clump, lose their "memory," or even break down. Spot-cleaning keeps the outside clean while keeping the "heart" of your pillow perfectly intact.
